6 advantages of Blog without database
In todays world Blogs like Wordpress show a dramatic development. Indeed Wordpress is most likely “killing” most of the other available alternatives like Serendipity, Nucleus, Textpattern and a few more still surveiving. A nice survey of available other blogs shows some more with a good description.
It may look archaic when I like to point out some comments about Blogs which donĀ“t even require a database. But still I think they can be a good alternative for some good reasons (although this blog is running Wordpress …!)
Advantage 1: Less work to install
Wordpress is easy and quick to install ?? Yes it is - but others still much quicker and easier. Flatpress for example just needs to be uploaded, enter 3 fields (Username, Password, Mail) - and its done. Took around 20 seconds for my first install !! So no need for any databse password (do you have this in mind ??)
Advantage 2: Less space
Wordpress is becoming a monster. Okay, everyone has space enough on the server, but still you need to upload all the stuff.
Advantage 3: Less Hacking
Wordpress is famous - not only for users but also for hackers. If there is a “gap” thousands of hackers around the world try to find the blogs still having the deficiency. I have my own experience with this ! Certainly this advantage applies also other alternatives.
Advantage 4: Simpler use
Wordpress is not difficult, but others a even more simple. Again flatpress: less options give you less headache (as long as only minor things are left out). That is the problem of all big software: They can do everything, but most of the people dot need it.
Advantage 5: Keep alternatives alive
Its like everywhere - if there is no alternative anymore one gets dependant. More choices give more creativity, more options, more ideas.
Advantage 6: More speed
A database connection may need its time, especially when server load is high it may take a long time until the database reacts. Flat file software is usually much quicker.
